Jan Booher is a Board Member of The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Boca Raton (UUFBR), where she chairs the Climate Change Working Group. She represented her congregation’s desire to advance the study of Adaptation and Climate Mitigation plans as a Congregational Study Action Issue at the Unitarian Universalist General Assembly 2012 in Arizona. UUFBR’s Climate Change Working Group launched the Southeast Florida Sea Level Awareness Project in 2012, and is currently working to promote citizen support for the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Action Plan (RCAP) and the Federal Climate Action Plan by Co-founding the Climate Action Coalition of South Florida: a group of non-profits participating in non-partisan education, outreach, and advocacy. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Climate-Action-Coalition-of-South-Florida/605199476162712 She is Co-Director of UUFBR’s Florida Earth Festival.
Jan has served as a Board Member of the Interfaith group: People Engaged in Active Community Efforts (PEACE), the largest grassroots organization in Palm Beach County working on issues of social justice, as co-chair of PEACE’s Affordable Housing campaign, and on PEACE’s Wage Theft Steering Committee. Jan holds a bachelor's degree from Johns Hopkins University in Earth and Planetary Sciences, and a Masters degree in Biological Oceanography. As a child, she attended Religious Education classes at The Unitarian Fellowship of Houston. She is the incoming president of the Unitarian Universalist SE FL Cluster.
